Campaign Story
About the project
The Sahariya tribe of Baran district in Rajasthan primarily depends on agriculture for their livelihood. However, extreme poverty, low awareness levels, lack of nearby senior secondary schools, and poor school infrastructure often force children to drop out of school, leading to early marriages or child labor. In addition, substance abuse is a widespread issue affecting men, women, youth, and adolescents within the community.
Making a difference
CRY America’s Project VSS in Baran works to bridge the gap by ensuring access to education through school enrollments and re-enrollments. Key activities include identifying vulnerable children, integrating child laborers into mainstream schools, upgrading existing school infrastructures along with establishment of new ones, and encouraging enrollment in Open State School (NIOS) where nearby schools are inaccessible. Additionally, the project focuses on forming Children’s Collectives and Girls’ Collectives to raise awareness about child marriage and child labor, empowering young individuals to advocate for their rights.
